Maria has delivered training both formally and informally for a number of years.
At the BBC Academy she ran a course for over 200 BBC radio producers, which looked at editorial judgement, how to reach new audiences, social media, the latest recording technology, and how to inspire creative teams. Maria also visited local radio stations around the country with the BBC’s College of Journalism, discussing everything from the perfect phone in question, to how to be more creative.
In her year as Bournemouth University Media School’s Radio Practitioner, Maria taught BA and MA students about all aspects of the radio industry, including script-writing, live radio and how to make a feature. She is delivering a Guardian Masterclass on ‘how to pitch a radio idea’ shortly.
Informally, Maria passed on her knowledge and skills to many of her team while at the BBC and Wise Buddah. A great believer in the value of mentoring, she has been a mentor for the BBC and Skillset, and is closely involved with the Sound Women Mentoring Scheme.
