Sound Women

In 2011 Maria set up Sound Women to encourage, promote and support women in UK radio.  Three years on, it runs an annual mentoring scheme in partnership with the BBC Academy and Skillset, has many active regional groups, and releases original research.  It also holds regular networking events and training workshops, and 2013 saw the first Sound Women festival – hosted by BBC Radio 4′s Fi Glover, Magic 105.4′s Angie Greaves, and BBC Radio 4 & 5 live’s Anita Anand.

By working collaboratively with the industry and supporting its members, Sound Women’s aim is to help women get more out of working in radio, and to help the radio industry get more out of women’s skills and talents.
